How to buy Gunpla and model kits from Japan (2026)
Kits themselves travel well. What stops a parcel is the paint, the glue and the spray cans people add to the order.
Why you can't just buy it
Where it stops
- Limited-run kits sell out in minutes on release
- Event and shop exclusives are domestic only
- Paint, thinner and spray cans are forbidden on aircraft
The shops
Where to find it
Every link goes to the shop's own site, and I checked each one loads. Shops not listed here are usually fine too — if it's a Japanese site, I can probably buy from it.
| Shop | What it sells | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Bandai | Made-to-order exclusives you cannot buy anywhere else | Preorder only in many cases — months ahead |
| Good Smile Company | Nendoroid and figma | — |
| Yodobashi | Gunpla and model kits | — |
| Volks | Dolls and garage kits | — |

What it costs to send
Japan Post's own published EMS rates, as of October 2026. I don't mark these up — you pay what it actually cost.
| What you are sending | Weight | India | UK | US |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A pack of trading cards | 500g | ¥1,900 | ¥3,150 | ¥3,900 |
| One HG kit | 1kg | ¥3,150 | ¥4,400 | ¥5,300 |
| Three MG kits | 3kg | ¥5,750 | ¥8,800 | ¥10,300 |
What I can't send
Watch out for these
- Paint, thinner, glue and spray cans — airline rules, no exceptions
- Anything pressurised, including air dusters
